Cisco ASA 5500-X Series (hardware) lifecycle status — the real story
Cisco ASA 5500-X is the appliance generation under Cisco ASA software: the ASA 5506-X (with the 5506W-X and 5506H-X), 5508-X, 5516-X, 5512-X, 5515-X, 5525-X, 5545-X, 5555-X and 5585-X, plus the ASA 5505 they replaced. Cycles on this page are appliance models, so it is the hardware companion to the Cisco ASA software page: the exploited CVEs that put ASA in CISA's KEV catalog are software CVEs and are tracked there, but they run on these boxes. Every date is taken from Cisco's own End-of-Sale and End-of-Life bulletins (public, read in-browser on 2026-09-03; cisco.com blocks automated fetches, so the verify registry is frozen to manual re-reads). Field mapping: support is Cisco's End-of-Sale Date (the last day to order); eol is Cisco's Last Date of Support, after which, in Cisco's words, all support services for the product are unavailable and the product becomes obsolete; the announcement date and the End of Service Contract Renewal Date are carried as extra fields.
The cliff just passed. Bulletins EOL13763 and EOL13762 (announced February 1, 2021) set the same milestones for the ASA 5506-X, 5508-X and 5516-X: end of sale August 2, 2021, end of service contract renewal October 28, 2025, and Last Date of Support August 31, 2026. Cisco names the Firepower 1000 Series as the migration for all three. A year earlier the ASA 5525-X, 5545-X and 5555-X went the same way under bulletin EOL13130: end of sale September 4, 2020, end of service contract renewal November 30, 2024, Last Date of Support September 30, 2025, migration to the Firepower 2100 Series.
Already long past: the ASA 5585-X (end of sale June 1, 2018, Last Date of Support May 31, 2023, migration to the Firepower 4100 Series), and the ASA 5512-X, 5515-X and 5505, which share the milestones of bulletin EOL11414 and its 5505 counterpart: end of sale August 25, 2017 and Last Date of Support August 31, 2022. Cisco's stated migration for the 5505 was the 5506-X, which is itself now past support.
Why it matters beyond the calendar: after the Last Date of Support Cisco provides no software maintenance, no security fixes and no hardware replacement for these models, so an exploited ASA vulnerability that CISA later adds to the KEV catalog has no vendor fix on these boxes; which ASA release each model can run last is stated in Cisco's ASA release notes, not here. Under CISA BOD 26-02 every model on this page is an end-of-support device as of September 1, 2026.

How to choose, in one question: how many more years does this system need to run? Under a year, extended support (where it exists) is usually cheaper than an emergency migration. One to three years, migrate — support purchased repeatedly costs more than doing the project once, and the project only gets harder as the version ages. Indefinitely, migrate now and plan the next migration before it surprises you.
Worth saying plainly, because vendors selling extended support rarely will: extended support is often the more expensive choice over a multi-year horizon.
